Art Therapy: Expressing Beyond Words

Art provides a powerful outlet for teens to express complex emotions and experiences, even when they struggle to articulate them verbally. Through virtual art therapy, your teen can explore their inner world in a creative and non-judgmental space.

  • Benefits: Art therapy can help teens process trauma, manage stress, improve emotional regulation, enhance self-awareness, and boost self-esteem.
  • How it works: At Healing Wolf Therapy, we  guide your teen through creative activities, encouraging self-expression and providing a safe space for emotional release and exploration. We might use digital art tools, or your teen can use readily available materials at home.
  • Here’s what a session might look like: A teen struggling with body image issues might use art to explore their feelings about their body, challenging negative self-perceptions and fostering self-acceptance. We  can then help the teen process the artwork and connect it to their lived experience.

Confidentiality: At Healing Wolf Therapy, we understand the importance of confidentiality for teens and will discuss the limits of confidentiality with both caregivers and young people

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills: Developing practical and social skills

DBT is a type of therapy that helps young people develop practical skills to manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and live a more fulfilling life. In a virtual setting, we can make DBT skills training engaging and relevant to your teen's experiences.

  • Benefits: DBT can help young people  manage overwhelming emotions, reduce impulsive behaviors, improve interpersonal skills, and increase mindfulness.
  • How it works: Through online  sessions, teens learn a range of skills, including mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. We use interactive exercises, role-playing, and real-life examples to make the skills practical and applicable.
  • Here’s what a session might look like:  A young person struggling with self-harm might learn distress tolerance skills in DBT to manage intense emotions without resorting to harmful behaviors. We can help the teen create a personalized distress tolerance kit and practice using the skills in session.

Caregiver  Involvement: While respecting your teen's autonomy, we may involve you in certain aspects of DBT, such as learning how to support your teen  in practicing their skills at home.

Somatic Experiencing (SE): Healing Trauma Through Body Awareness

Somatic Experiencing (SE)  is a body-oriented approach to healing trauma. It helps young people  release trapped energy and tension related to traumatic experiences, allowing them to move forward with greater resilience.

  • Benefits: SE can help teens process past traumas, reduce symptoms of PTSD, improve emotional regulation, and increase body awareness.
  • How it works: Through gentle guidance, we help adolescents  pay attention to their bodily sensations, identifying areas of tension or discomfort. We use specific techniques to help release trapped energy and restore a sense of safety and calm.
  • Here’s what a session might look like: A young person who experienced a car accident can gradually  learn to identify physical sensations related to the accident, such as tightness in their chest or a racing heart. At Healing Wolf Therapy, we would then guide the teen through exercises to gently release that tension and regulate their nervous system.

Safety and Empowerment: SE is a gentle and empowering approach that prioritizes  safety and comfort. We  will work at your teen's pace, ensuring they feel in control throughout the process.
